The Oakley area's agricultural character developed over more than a century, with Portuguese and Italian immigrants establishing vineyards in the late 1800s, taking advantage of the region's climate and proximity to water. The vineyard tradition continues today, with Oakley now home to multiple wineries and wine-tasting establishments that serve visitors from across the region. The vineyards occupy roughly 700 acres in the immediate Oakley area and represent a significant part of the city's economic and cultural identity.

Zinfandel is the dominant varietal, representing nearly 80 percent of Oakley's vineyard acreage. The vineyards collectively produce approximately 2,000 tons of grapes each year, generating revenue not only from direct wine sales but also from tourism and agritourism activities. Family-owned wineries and newer boutique producers operate alongside the agricultural operations that support the broader Delta region's economy.

For families in agricultural communities, life insurance planning often involves different considerations than suburban areas: protecting a multi-generational family business, ensuring that land and equipment investments are covered if something happens to a key family member, or planning for the time when the agricultural property transitions to the next generation. A term policy sized to cover these obligations can be reviewed and adjusted as the business and family circumstances change.
